The Great Undertaking

April 8th, 2009

Hey everybody.

If I haven’t talked to you lately, you might not know I’ve embarked on a massively ambitious undertaking. I’m creating a visual diagram of all the authors of the Bible and significant apocryphal or non-canon works. I’m working on version 2.0 right now and always adding new material. I have a massive spreadsheet of non-canon and apocrypha to be added (a couple of them were accidentally left in their rough form turned on in the link here).

Anyways, if you want to help or you just like it - let me know!

Here’s the DIAGRAM as of today: DIAGRAM 4_08_09

UPDATE: DIAGRAM 4_10_09

What’s behind that…

March 16th, 2009

Let me make a quick point about a trend that I’m a fan of.

Mask-wearing techno groups.

I think most people are at least peripherally aware of Daft Punk and their image, but I don’t think it would be outrageous to claim they sort of started this trend of wearing masks.

MSTRKRFT is a new techno group. Without discussing their actual music - let’s look at how awesome the gold hockey/jason masks are. GOLD HOCKEY MASKS. There’s no chance that their actual faces could be as cool or memorable as that. There’s something totally different about dancing to a DJ set performed by cyber super-heroes.

I love the Bloody Beetroots. Not only because they have an album/song called just that, but also because they rule. Tripped out thumping underground anthems booming from a group that wears Scarlet Spider era spiderman masks while they spin. Awesome.

Last example. This guy is french I believe, but he goes by The Toxic Avenger - and he makes a mean old school distorted synth banger. He’s on iheartcomix right now, which is a bleeding-edge hip label. His whole image reminds me of food poisoning gone right, blazing rainbows screaming past your eyelids that feel like a broken subwoofer.

More masks, please. Let’s dispel the cult of personality and make music a thing of creative artifice again.

Brain Melting Design

March 11th, 2009

I’ve been spending a lot of time over at ffffound.com lately browsing the incredible collection of graphic design pieces. I’ve also been posting more and more ads to zooppa.com - so make sure you go check those out, the last few have been pretty high quality I think.

I learned a little about using clipping masks in photoshop today, so here’s something I made while messing with settings.

Zooppa Man

March 5th, 2009

I posted a few ads on www.zooppa.com, which I guess is some kind of ad competition site. You can earn real money, so I figured I’d give it a shot. I love doing print design.

It doesn’t look like it has as sophisticated of a voting system as worth1000.com used to, but it’s not bad. Hopefully I’ll do well and get some extra money!

My profile there is http://www.zooppa.com/mwallace. Keep up with me!

More Posters

March 2nd, 2009

So, I worked up a new version of that last poster, but I don’t think it really matters enough for me to re-post it. Here’s a couple more in the same vein. Incase I forgot, they’re all inspired by the iso50 collection.

Old isn’t bad

FYI my corporate identity is Abstract Phantom Inc.

I’ve been considering replacing the site’s current placeholder image with something like this. Maybe someday I’ll make a for real abstractphantom.com site.

Experiments To Come

February 19th, 2009

Instead of posting an entire new portfolio page, I’ve decided to just post a few different things I’m working on in the blog. Expect some very design-orientated pieces sort of trickling in for the next couple weeks!

Here’s something I put together just for kicks, an up and coming band I like called Heartsrevolution.

Fictional cover for the single of

Polyvore Dot Com

February 11th, 2009

I got caught up doing one of their online-collage thingies. I think it’s supposed to be for little fashion mock-ups, but I totally ignored the intended purpose and came up with this. Oh - it violated their 50 image limit (who knew?) so I screenshotted it.
